Wedding Ceremonies in Italy

A Civil Ceremony in Italy

This is a 'full legal marriage', and by law can be celebrated in any venue that is recognized by the governing authorities. In Italy there are a wide range of venues to choose from.

The Mayor or Civil Registrar will conduct the ceremony for you. This lasts about 15/20 mins, and by law must include the Italian civil codes (wedding articles). It is possible, however, to personalise your ceremony with poems, readings or the exchanging of personal pledges. The civil ceremony and sworn statement are read in Italian, so an interpreter is required by law in your required language. We include this service for you. You will also need 2 witnesses for the civil ceremony/civil union. Usually family members or friends. We can offer assistance if need be.

In most town halls of Italy, your 'Declaration' has to be made 2 days prior to the wedding day. We will accompany you and guide you through this procedure, so take into account your arrival dates before your wedding.

A Civil Union in Italy

The main difference between a Civil Union and a Civil Ceremony is that in most towns, the couple must go to the town hall to make their request no earlier than 6 months and up to 1 month before the date they wish to celebrate their union. So a trip to Italy is required before the wedding date for this and a good opportunity to meet your Wedding Planner to run through things.

Religious Ceremonies in Italy

To marry in a Catholic church in Italy, it is important that at least one of the couple, is Catholic. Many of the beautiful churches here will perform religious wedding ceremonies to non residents of Italy.

The first thing you must do is inform your Parish priest that you wish to marry in Italy and he will help you with the various documents required for the celebration of a religious wedding in Italy. These documents must then be sent to the Church here were they will be approved by the Bishop. One of the required documents is your civil marriage certificate. This can be made simpler by having the civil portion of your marriage done in your country of residence if you wish.

Symbolic Ceremony in Italy

A symbolic ceremony or a blessing, is the simplest and most flexible way to celebrate your marriage. No legal paperwork is required as the ceremony is not legally binding. It is perfect for any couple wishing to commit themselves to each other with one of the many beautiful ceremonies to choose from.  If you have already had a civil wedding in your own country then we can create your symbolic ceremony around that too.

These ceremonies are limitless with content and style, as is the venue, and can be completely personalized. A symbolic blessing can be as formal or informal, as traditional or creative as you wish and held almost anywhere you desire.
